Yeah you read right. My husband made some soap this last weekend and you'd think he discovered a pot of gold. It looked yellow when we mixed it up but turned out a beautiful white color. Has to sit for a good 2-3 weeks to cure before using while it becomes alkaline. You're not going to believe how easy this is.
The ingredients we used are castor oil that you buy from the drug store, olive oil bought from whevever, lard we bought from Walmart. We added coconut oil that we bought from Publix, but you can use the LouAnns coconut oil from Walmart. The two other ingredients are water and lye. Since you cannot purchase Red Devil lye crystals any more that are 100% sodium hydroxide, you have to go to Lowe's and look for Roebic brand sodium hydroxide crystals drain cleaner. On the ingredients it has to say 100% sodium hydroxide and it has to be in the crystal form. Go to the healthfood store and buy a bottle of Lavender or Sandlewood essential oil to put in your soap. You'll be glad you did. We used Lavender, but next time we'll go get some Sandlewood or Patchouli.
I'll post the soap recipe this evening. Talk about having clean fun, making soap is really all that. We stirred it up outside and neighbors went by commenting how we always have some project going on. Yep, thats us.
Any local Okeechobee people who might want to learn how to make soap, just email me and we can set up a time you can come over and learn how to do this. It wouldn't be a problem at all. No children though, okay? Email me at elaine@bringbacksimplicity.com
