Since I grew up using an outhouse, no running water, no electricity, I don't feel one bit guilty for enjoying what we have while we have it. Now if there were youngen's around to do a lot of the work or if families still lived together to take care of the older family members, it might not be so bad to be without all these modern things. So my simplicity now is to live in a cheaper dwelling, drive a second hand car, barter, second hand clothing(or at least on sale),eating simply, simple entertainment. Then the extras we want to add is not out of reach because we're not wanting outrageous stuff.
More than likely if it came to it, families would simply have to decide to make peace and live together, and that might not be such a bad thing in the long run. People seem entirely too intolerant of each other nowadays. Everyone wants their own SPACE and don't want to be bothered. Such a selfish generation, except for some who have remembered that life is precious and selfish looks awfully ugly.
What I appreciate is that not having much money doesn't seem so bad when i look at living simply as a hobby instead of a drudge. I used to cry and spend energy needlessly being angry over circumstances I could not change. Now when I buy meat, I search for packages $2 or less. It's a game, also finding ways to make meatless meals that my meat-eating husband will appreciate. Yep, it can be done. Many a time the man was scared to ask what it was, but said it tasted pretty good. Especially when I made him a sandwich out of breaded fried eggplant, slice of cheese and mashed avocado instead of mayo. LOL!!
