I don't believe I've had this much fun since I was a little child. The Greek style yogurt I made turned out so well, we went and bought several large containers to make yogurt in. Seems everyone wants to taste it. I hope they know that plain yogurt is plain yogurt.. I'll eat anything as long as it is good for me.
We had to wash the cortido to eat it, because of the salt, but it's sooo crunchy and spicy. I slapped some plain yogurt on top of it and it was pretty much lunch yesterday.
You know there are plenty of things to do if you just look for them, inexpensive too. The way I see it, if it's helpful for the family and you enjoy it, for goodness sake do it. You'll never catch me making something we can't actually use. I'm not for making dust catchers.
I found an inexpensive (under $40) non electric sausage stuffer online so we could continue making sausage. We were so tickled with our little experiment, enough to plan making a lot more!
Gotta tell you we miss having chickens so much. It's okay living in an RV park for the most part, but it just kills me to buy eggs. I made a crockpot stew the other day with some mystery meat we had pressure canned when we decided to cook up all our food animals. There was no clue whether it was goat or rabbit, but it was so good!!! We didn't mark the jars because at the time it bothered us so much to can up the critters. It's been two years (at least) now, so we can finally open the jars and start using them.
I want a solar oven so bad!! We tried to make one, but it absolutely didn't work where we had it. We put it where a window had been, but turned out a tree was blocking the sun too much, even though when I was sitting in front of that window the sun felt hot. Evidently not hot enough to cook anything in a solar oven!! I found a website of a lady in Arizona who not only has a solar oven built into her home, but teaches others how to do the same. Oh, to have her knowledge.
Gotta get up and walk around. Can't sit too long. I really enjoy my job as locktender. No boats yet this morning, but it won't be long until the fish start coming around.
Hugs, Elaine/Florida
