I'm on a group that is all about small living spaces and I very much admire the way some people have been able to pare down and live so simply with nothing but the basics. I think about it a lot... but I'm already living in a very small space and I make myself crazy with packing too much in! I can't imagine living in one of these REALLY tiny houses, but I sure would like to have one to escape to. I think if I lived in a more temperate area where I could be outdoors most of the time and not fighting the elements six months of the year, I could live happily in a tiny dwelling. Of course I'd need outbuildings then... at least an animal shed and a studio. Actually if I could have a fairly large studio, I could happily do all my basic living in a tiny house. Tiny houses are going to be the trend of the future I think. Have any of you already drastically downsized? Okay.. here's one of my favorite sites... I love looking at the floor plans of these tiny houses and imagining myself in that space and how cozy it would be and how I would "decorate" and such... www.tumbleweedhouses.com/houses.htm#The neatest thing about these houses is that they are all built on wheels and can actually be moved about like a mobile home... can you imagine living in a gypsy wagon like this? I think it needs some fancy gingerbread trim and bright paint... ;D It would be like living in a fairy tale!

Rave, they ARE cute. Yes they would look like something out of a fairy tale. The longest we've lived anywhere in our 18 yr marriage is right here for the last five years. We've sort of spread out in thie three bedroom house here. I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff but somehow stuff keeps finding us. Elaine

Those are a LITTLE TOO TINY for us BUTTTTTT, in Europe we are used to houses smaller than the American standard and as a result of that and trying to be EFFICIENT we are trying to calculate exactly how much space we really NEED! OK, here goes: bedrooms: space necessary to negotiate around a bed, dresser, closet and bookcase (great for toys, books, etc.) for each member of the family, combo kitchen/dining/living room and basement for laundry room/rootcellar. Study and/or craft room for mom and dad. No more, no less, for the REST of our lives!!!
