Okay, what on earth could possibly be said about housing that hasn't been said before?
Well, probably not a whole lot, but considering the cost of living and the way things seem to be heading, it's worth chewing up again.
We seem to bump into quite a variety of people living here in Florida. I've noticed that the cheapest way for some to live is by purchasing or bartering for a very old but useable camper on a little truck, a small pull behind camper, or an old motorhome that still runs. I'm not going to get into the ones who make a school bus into a home (my dad's lifelong unrealized dream), or the ones who live out of their car, or secretly in public buildings. There's all kinds out there.
A few years back I found a pull behind camper for free on Freecycle. Sure it needed some repairs, but it was free and it was useable. We wound up buying another camper and moving to town in that one, before finding a run down RV that didn't look worth saving and fixing it up. That was our great find and our way out of the camper.
What do you think happens to old motorhomes that still run but need cosmetic work inside and out? They get sold cheap. Go look for one if you are in need of a home that can travel with you, preferably one that uses gas. Don't be afraid to ask people if you see one looking abandoned in their back yard. You never can tell, it just might be a blessing to them to find someone who actually wants it and willing to pay something for it.
Hope someone who needs help can put these tried and true ideas to use. I'm living proof of that. We know quite a few people whose only transportation is a bicycle. Somehow they get by except for when they need to call on someone with a car to haul something for them. I'm not in good enough shape for that, but the ones on the bikes look pretty healthy to me.
There's always a way to live, whether it's in someone's garage, spare room, or in a tent or in a fine house somewhere. I'm not talking survival, I'm talking living. Remember, it's up to you whether you are simply surviving or really living each day.
Have a wonderful week!!
