It's that time of year again... the burdock burrs are starting to dry and I swear they absolutely jump out to attack you. Ever gotten them in your hair?!?! Getting them out is pure torture... if it's your horse's tail or your dog's pantaloons, then you feel as though you are torturing the poor critter trying to remove them. Before you resort to scissors, try vinegar. Saturate the burrs and make sure the vinegar penetrates the whole tangled mess. If possible try to keep them good and soaking wet for an hour or more. Easier said than done on a critter, but if it's in your hair or a child's just keep slopping it on and maybe clip a wrap of plastic around the tangle. After an hour or so the little hooks at the ends of the burrs should have softened enough to start to work them out gently with your fingers. A gob of hair conditioner rubbed in at this point will help them glide out even easier.
