It's so cold this morning, I am wearing extra clothes to keep warm. Sorry for not posting for quite a while. I took some training and worked a crazy shift for a while. Now getting back to normal days, so you'll have all this yakking to put up with now.
My husband moved the passion vines the other day to the other side of the trailer. Don't know if it's the wrong time of year or not, but I sure hope they make it. I want to dry the leaves for tea. I am NOT a farmer so if these things succeed it will be in spite of me.
Trying to save money on the electric bill. We have a flip switch on the water heater(inside) and I keep unplugging stuff. Hubby told me not to unplug the TV because it would forget the channels (we use an antenna and Netflix). It just makes me upset to walk around the house in the dark with all these red and green lights on all over the place. The Wii (how I get Netflix) is on, the answering machine is on, the telephone is on, the stove clock is on, plus the TV light, oh and don't forget the plug in strip lights as well. You know HE is leaving those on in his shop(mental note to go check those often). Those things do add up over time.
I found the cheapest place to buy meat, cut our veggies down to frozen(no spoilage), getting healthy so doctor can take me off of the one pill I'm on. I'm gonna hug his neck when that happens because to me thats the sign of a GREAT doctor. It tells me he really DOES care.
If you can't grow any of your own food, at least consider the sprouting seeds that you can do yourself to add nutrition to your eggs, salad, soups, sandwiches.
I grow plants that have leaves I can use for medicinal teas. Anyone can do that. Pick and dry for year round use. Ask your county extension service for information on which wild plants in your area have leaves that can be used for teas etc.
Do your homework and learn how to properly identify edible and medicinal wild plants and how to use them. Be careful, you have to know what you're doing, but don't be so afraid that you completely avoid learning. Our ancestors learned and too bad it wasn't something every family made of point of passing down through the years. Thats why many have the attitude that this is information only survivalist types share. I certainly don't put myself in that category, mainly because our family never lost the ability to pass on information on plants and how to use them. You don't have to be poor for goodness sake, and who gives a crap anyway if you eat purslane(high in Omega 3's) or drink Elderflower tea(make sure it IS elderflowers),or use peppergrass in your salads etc.
Have a wonderful day and a wonderful year. Check back often. I'll be on here far more often, I promise!!
