Seems like everyone you talk to lately is going through such trying times. People are so stressed, the doctors are handing out anxiety medication like it's candy.
I went for a walk Saturday, just me and my walker. Yeah, it helps to have it along when I get too tired to walk or my back or leg says sit down NOW. I walked three miles downtown trying to work out some 'issues' I had rolling around in my head and weighing heavily on my heart.
Just walking, resting, and walking some more seemed to really help even though the problems were not solved. A very nice lady saw me resting in a parking lot and inquired if I was alright. I said yes, had to sit down because my back hurt. She had me loaded up in her car in two blinks. It was so nice to meet her, I think her name was Pat, and she had a French last name. It would have been nice to sit down with a cup of hot tea and just chat for a while, but she got me safely home.
After taking a nap, my husband asked if I wanted to take a walk. I asked how far, and he said whatever, so off we went. We walked three miles and had a small snack at Taco Bell before starting home. We got home after dark, but can you believe it took that long and that far just to feel like everything was 'right' inside?
If only we could all figure out how to safely deal with the issues that run us down daily. I have to tell you something else I did besides walk. Every time there was a negative thought about anyone or anything. I did what the bible tells us to do. In the Bible, Philippians 4:8 tells us:
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."And another thing about our thoughts:
2 Corinthians 2:5
"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"
It's one thing to read those verses, but its a whole nuther thing to actually put it to work in our lives. We never get anywhere just sitting still, and that works in every area of life.
