I just bought some plain Greek yogurt and some Stoneyfield plain yogurt the other day. My husband tasted to Stoneyfield and commented that my homemade Greek yogurt tastes much better. Well DUH!!!! So looks like it's time to make yogurt again. With the price of groceries going up like they have, it's so much more economical to make it. I like to make mine in a new plastic dishpan. I've made three panfuls and gave it away before, but it was to people who don't normally eat yogurt. They said they liked it, but not enough to beg me to make more, so fooey on them. As with most homemade foods, the quality is better because you know exactly what is in your final product. When you purchase something, you try not to think of things that might have gone wrong, and you certainly don't want to know that someome didn't wash their hands or dipped a finger in the food. You know what I mean, don't even sit there and pretend you don't care. Well, actually we don't care until we hear about it, and we get grossed out for a while, then forget, thinking it's an isolated incident. Making it yourself takes the Lala factor out of it. You have food you can be proud of, no matter what it is. You know you can flavor your plain homemade Greek yogurt with anything. Only after the yogurt is done you can use jam or fresh fruit, Splenda, Stevia, spices, nuts, or granola to flavor it. My personal favorite is Truvia( a mixture of Stevia and Erythritol) Nothing else.
