this post comes from my big group over on yahoogroups:"I know there are vegetarians out there that will want to blast this post (I respect your personal decision and ask that you respect mine) but there are alot of us meat eaters out there that would like to know what small farm animals may give us the best source of protien for the amount of work and money you put into them. I have raised rabbits for many years and I think for a small farm or homestead they are by far the best choice for least expensive, healthy, easy to keep, and prolific breeding. 3 does and a buck will fill a winter freezer with enough meat for a family of 4. They can eat garden waste, grass alfalfa and cheap pellets. Their waste is less harmful to plants than chicken manure (I raise chickens to) and is great for raising red wiggler worms in. Their fur is very workable for clothing. Plus they are hardy and can withstand cold temperatures that will kill other animals. Heres a good basic website for info on rabbits and if you raise rabbits tell us your stories and recommendations for beginners please ?
