Ripe potato juice is an excellent cleaner of silks, cottons and woollens. The water in which potatoes have been boiled can be used to clean silver and to restore a shine to furniture Grieve. A Modern Herbal. Penguin 1984 ISBN 0-14-046-440-9 Not so modern (1930's?)

Potato water is also good against moss growing on the pavement in the backyard. My mother used to pour out the potato water over those that had gone green and after that they stayed clean for a few months. Could be something in the starch perhaps.

I'm really glad to know this Christy!! Green whateveritis grows on our concrete in front of our house..and up until now my husband will put clorox on for a while then wash off....not real good considering we have a cat who could accidently step in it. Will consider the potato water next time!!!! Hugs, Elaine
